Ride to Mount Hamilton... all the way to the top! - Results

  • Where: From Gateway City Church, San Jose, CA
When: Sunday, April 19th, 2006, after church

    • After a quick ride to lunch at "La Costas" (awesome Mexican food just off Monterey) we picked up an extra rider or two, rode via 680 to 84 and stopped at Sunol. It's there that we talked if over and Henry suggested we ride to Mount Hamilton for some awesome views, a look back in time, a visit to Henry's brothers 53 acre ranch and, once back in San Jose, a welcomed Starbucks run. It was quite a ride that lasted a little longer than we anticipated but it was great! Weather was wonderful albeit  a little chilly at the top of the Mount but it made the coffee afterwards that much better! We passed a little snow up there!

      Here's some pics:

This place was AMAZING!  The half way point about 40 miles east of San Jose.  I tried to find this place on a map and it wasn't there!  This bar and grill had available to the public every National Geographic magazine since 1952 to 2000!  EVERY ONE!  That's nearly 40 years of history on 4 bookshelves all in the same place.  It really struck me looking at the four shelves how short life is and how long eternity is.  I'm glad to be in God's kingdom, that's for sure!  The look and feel of this place was really authentic backwoods country with some of the strongest coffee on the planet!Too bad the bathroom didn't work.  It made stopping at Henry's brothers' ranch a must!  Some really beautiful scenery and some incredible rides to get there.
