- Ride to
Mount Hamilton... all the way to the top!
When: Sunday, March 19th, 2006, after church
Where: Gateway City Church, San Jose, CA
What: After a quick ride to lunch at "La Costas" (awesome Mexican
food just off Monterey) we picked up an extra rider or two, rode via 680 to
84 and stopped at Sunol. It's there that we talked if over and Henry
suggested we ride to Mount Hamilton for some awesome views, a visit to
Henry's brothers 53 acre ranch and, once back in San Jose, a welcomed
Starbucks run. It was quite a ride that lasted a little longer than we
anticipated but it was great! Weather was wonderful but it was a
little chilly at the top of the Mount. We passed a little snow up
there!

ANNUAL SUMMER
HARD BUTT TRIP - The Grand Canyon
When: Thursday, September 14 - Thursday, September 21st, 2006
(plus a day longer!)
Ok. What a trip! It was a
memorable event with not as many riders as I would have liked... but the two
riders that went had a BLAST AND A HALF! Tom and Connie Morrison on
their Honda Shadow and Jason and Mark Sullivan on our Honda VTX. The
trip started at Starbucks on Capital at 6:00 AM, we left for Angels Camp via
680/205/120 and got settled there by 11:00 AM! We partied there at the
hot tube and slept well. We left for Yosemite next and went all around
Yosemite including our ill fated decision to try to take in Glacier Point
and get to Mammoth Lakes in a single day! It was exceedingly cold and
we froze a little bit but we made it! After that we headed on down 395
to 168 towards Vegas. 395 was one big long road and some awesome
views. But 168 was a destination in itself. The winding roads
and no services for 150 miles was a bit risky but we went for it. I'll
never forget thinking about being out in the middle of nowhere... AND I MEAN
NOWHERE... and out of gas. Also, the longest straightaway I've ever
seen was second half of 168! We hit 95 and headed to Vegas and the
desert views were impressive. We made to Vegas and hit the mattress in
a "Nicer-than-we-planned-Hotel" because we were dog tired. We checked
out Vegas for awhile and then took off for St. George, Utah via 15 through
the Northwest corner of Arizona. That was a super ride as we passed
some incredible mountain/hill formations that took our breath away! We
did some great time at St. George as we stayed at Tom's condo resort.
What fun THAT was. It rocked. I actually cooked dinner that
night which wasn't too bad really! Hot tub on the porch overlooking
the Utah valley was nice! Left there and took 15 to 9 and rode through
Zion National Park. We got some really great pics there! From
there we took off down 89 through the north route via Lake Powel and stayed
the night in Page, Arizona. Left really early in the AM and continued
down 89 all the way down to 64 and to the south rim of the Grand Canyon.
We remained amazed at that site for about a half day. At this point,
Tom and Connie split off and went to the LA area to visit family.
Jason and I decided to check out Hoover Dam. We blazed a quick ride
via 180 to 89/40 to Kingman. We relaxed there overnight and headed for
Hoover Dam up 93 which was the second longest straightaway I've ever seen.
Hoover Dam was impressive and Jason wanted the whole tour. We hung out
there for a few hours. From here we realized that we were a little
behind schedule. We decided to do a long, long, long.... LONG stint to
the west coast. So in one day we went from Kingman, Arizona to San
Luis Obispo, California via 15 to 58! 528 miles! That was a ride
to remember. The last part of 58 was two hours of winding back roads
that really was tough after about 16 hours of riding! Jason and I
slept in the next day, needless to say and stayed an extra day in San Luis
Obispo. No worries though because SLO Town is my old stomping grounds
as I was raised in San Luis. Took Jason around to see the sights where
his old man was raised! From there, we took off up 101 to San Jose and
home.
